Our mission
Protecting everything that healthy land makes possible.
Golden State Land Conservancy helps build a healthier, more resilient California by permanently protecting the lands that people, wildlife, agriculture, and communities depend on.
Why we exist
Communities face increasing pressure from development, climate change, habitat loss, wildfire, water scarcity, and the loss of working lands. Golden State Land Conservancy helps communities navigate those challenges by protecting the natural systems that support clean water, wildlife, agriculture, recreation, and climate resilience — forever.
What makes us different
Every acre counts. Many land trusts won’t consider an easement under a couple thousand acres. We will — even a single acre — whenever protecting it helps the land — and the species and communities that depend on it — or advances a broader stewardship goal. If a parcel strengthens California’s landscapes, it’s worth protecting.
We’re also known for solving conservation challenges through creative partnerships, practical solutions, and a lasting commitment to stewarding protected lands for generations. We partner with landowners, public agencies, developers, Tribal communities, nonprofits, and local organizations so that growth, economic development, and environmental protection work together — not against one another.
Why conservation matters
Conservation is essential infrastructure for healthy communities. Healthy lands provide:
- Clean drinking water
- Wildlife habitat and biodiversity
- Working farms and ranches
- Climate resilience
- Wildfire resilience
- Groundwater recharge
- Outdoor recreation
- Healthier communities
- Places for future generations to connect with nature
When we protect land, we protect the benefits that land provides to everyone.
